The BC Liberal line is that our LNG exports are necessary to help improve air quality in China.
FACT: There are still 11 coal-burning power plants in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Nearly 43% of Alberta's energy comes from these coal-burning power plants. Given that it requires an enormous amount of energy to liquefy the natural gas, and then more energy to ship it halfway around the world to China (both liquefaction and shipping create a lot of air pollution and greenhouse gases), wouldn't it make more sense to pipe our natural gas to Alberta to clean up our air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions here in Canada?
FACT: While the BC government is ramping up LNG exports, we're also increasing our coal exports to China.
