Surrey LNG: What we need to know!

Hosted by the Council of Canadians

The public has heard many promises about the economic benefits of a proposed LNG (liquefied natural gas) industry powered by fracking in northeast B.C. Increasingly, questions are being asked about the credibility of these claims and the environmental impacts of fracking, pipelines, LNG export plants and supertankers. There are up to 18 LNG export terminals being proposed for the B.C. coast – including projects close to home in Delta and Squamish. You are invited to a discussion of the ramifications of LNG development and fracking on B.C.’s energy future.

Speakers include:
• Damien Gillis: Vancouver-based journalist and documentary filmmaker. He is currently co-directing and co-producing a feature documentary, Fractured Land, and he is also the co-founder of the Common Sense Canadian.

• Leila Darwish: BC-Yukon Regional Organizer for the Council of Canadians. She has spent the last several months organizing with communities across BC that are fighting fracked gas pipelines and LNGproposals.

• Melyssa Hudson (tbc): Squamish resident and local organizer with My Sea to Sky, a community group which has been active in raising concern and opposition to the Woodfibre LNG project currently proposed for HoweSound.

Come out and get informed so we can go out and get organized!

Cost: Free!
