Angela Muellers signed Sign the Howe Sound Declaration 2015-04-12 12:22:57 -0700In 2015 we are living in the information age. Why does Government and Industry continue to attempt to manipulate the public as they always have? History tells us that alcohol was provided to dumb the poor and keep them working. The modern days carrot is the promise of tax money and high paying jobs to ship LNG to China despite significantly adding to the GHGs and polluting water (a precious resource). As we do not have affordable electric cars available I recognize that we need fossil fuels for our own consumption. Creating new infrastructure and pipelines to sell to China is not environmentally cost efficient. The Government and Industry omit to use the fracking word and when pushed declare that it does not harm the environment. How can creating over 10,000 fracking sites in Northern B.C create a green energy source as all the commercials would have you believe? We know that for every 1 ton of NG it costs 3.3 tons of GHGs. The claims of getting China off of coal is foolhardy. Alberta’s power is 80% coal driven – are we to demand that China stops using coal? Information states that China is storing energy. Are they going to sell it back to us when our reserves are depleted? WFLNG is constructed so that it could increase production 6X. It is a misrepresentation to declare that we will only have one tanker every 10 days. When are future generations and our mother earth important enough to say lets just extract what is absolutely necessary?18,623 signatures
Howe Sound is world renowned for its wild natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and the vibrant communities we call home. We value intact ecosystems that sustain and support our communities, our livelihoods, and our diverse local economies.
The proposed Woodfibre LNG project is based on faulty economics, will harm marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and poses an unacceptable health and safety risk for the communities of Howe Sound. This project does not fit our values.
We call on the Provincial and Federal governments to reject the Woodfibre LNG project and its associated pipelines and tankers.
