Kate Vincent signed Sign the Howe Sound Declaration 2019-11-07 09:45:01 -0800It is past time that the province of B.C. begins to take the climate crisis seriously. Half-measures are not enough. We cannot continue to plan for an increased fossil fuel economy and still claim that we are meeting our obligations to drastically reduce our emissions in the next decade. We do not have time for baby steps to a fossil free future. We need a government that has the courage to make the changes now that are necessary to prevent world-wide climate and social breakdown. This is not hysterical hyperbole. It is what the science is telling us. Our government must make decisions based on the best scientific information available, and we all know what that is. Act now to put all provincial resources toward transitioning to renewable energy and greening our economy. A green economy does not include LNG.20,334 signatures
Howe Sound is world renowned for its wild natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and the vibrant communities we call home. We value intact ecosystems that sustain and support our communities, our livelihoods, and our diverse local economies.
The proposed Woodfibre LNG project is based on faulty economics, will harm marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and poses an unacceptable health and safety risk for the communities of Howe Sound. This project does not fit our values.
We call on the Provincial and Federal governments to reject the Woodfibre LNG project and its associated pipelines and tankers.
