As wild fires put humans and wildlife at risk and the air is thick with smoke, Premier Christy Clark is holding a summer sitting at the Victoria Legislature to help push through the Petronas LNG project in Prince Rupert, BC and increase BC's greenhouse gas emissions creating more heat in the environment and acerbating the effects of climate change.
The policy being discussed on July 13th would exempt Petronas from any tax increases for 25 years. 25-30 years is the average life span of an LNG processing facility. This policy will likely be used by other LNG proponents such as Woodfibre LNG or WesPac Midstream Vancouver LLC proposed along the Fraser River. This deal sets a precedent allowing the LNG companies to keep more money in their pocket as our government continues to sell more and more of BC's natural resources to foreign ownership. Remember, the LNG train was supposed to make BC rich and pay off all our provincial debt and see unicorns in our skies; instead our Premier takes us further down a road of increased emissions, more fires, more smokey skies and more fracking wastewater!
This is not acceptable and we are bringing our voices to the Legislature to be heard and seen. Bring signs, banners sending your messages to the Premier and all our provincial leaders.
