Howe Sound is world renowned for its wild natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and the vibrant communities we call home. We value intact ecosystems that sustain and support our communities, our livelihoods, and our diverse local economies.

The proposed Woodfibre LNG project is based on faulty economics, will harm marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and poses an unacceptable health and safety risk for the communities of Howe Sound. This project does not fit our values.

We call on the Provincial and Federal governments to reject the Woodfibre LNG project and its associated pipelines and tankers.

At this critical moment in history where we stand at the edge of climate breakdown, we absolutely must leave oil and gas and coal in the ground. We must provide well-paying, low-carbon jobs to the people who currently work in these industries. We must prioritize the survival of people and planet and leave no worker behind.

It is long past time to move toward renewable energy. Our ecosystem is collapsing. We have no more time to waste.

It is past time that the province of B.C. begins to take the climate crisis seriously. Half-measures are not enough. We cannot continue to plan for an increased fossil fuel economy and still claim that we are meeting our obligations to drastically reduce our emissions in the next decade. We do not have time for baby steps to a fossil free future. We need a government that has the courage to make the changes now that are necessary to prevent world-wide climate and social breakdown. This is not hysterical hyperbole. It is what the science is telling us. Our government must make decisions based on the best scientific information available, and we all know what that is. Act now to put all provincial resources toward transitioning to renewable energy and greening our economy. A green economy does not include LNG.

LNG is not the answer for BC. Energy conservation, retrofits, solar, wind, geothermal; increased royalty rates are all better strategies for a carbonless future. Let’s use the LNG money for these new energies & jobs. Watch “Fractured Land”

Climate justice must be front and centre. We are beyond mitigation and into adaptation. More LNG projects, with their potential impacts on air and water, must be stopped. This is for short term profit but long term disadvantage, both environmentally and financially!
