Squamish Municipal Election

The Squamish municipal election is coming up on October 20th 2018. Here's what you need to do:

1. Get informed

Who are your candidates? What are their values? Can they collaborate with others? Do they understand how council works? This is a critical time for Squamish, with big decisions ahead for Woodfibre LNG, Garibaldi at Squamish, and the Cheema lands (Lot 509/510). Who we elect to council will have major repercussions for the future of Squamish, so make sure you vote wisely.

Learn more about your candidates

To help, we've put together a helpful page that lists all of the candidates, with links to their websites, facebook pages, interviews, questionnaires, and more.

Watch the all-candidates debates

We're compiling the videos from the all-candidates debates on the Environment, Recreation, and Business in one place, as they become available. Each of these videos reveals who the candidates are, whether they understand policy (or not!), and their position on major projects.

2. Vote!

In the last municipal election in 2014, only 49.55% of Squamish voters turned out to vote. That means over half of eligible voters in Squamish just shrugged their shoulders and said "Meh." The people we elect to council in 2018 will be making key decisions on the future of Squamish, such as negotiating the tax rate for Woodfibre LNG (IF it goes ahead... and we're still determined to stop it!), deciding whether or not we allow a huge tourist resort to be developed on Garibaldi with 6,000 to 22,000 beds, and how soon Bob Cheema can develop his lands at the end of Perth Drive. All of these issues and more will be decided by seven people that you elect. Your vote is very important. Put these dates in your calendar:
