@Sufisister tweeted link to BC Election 2020: Shape our strategy and get involved!. 2020-09-28 21:37:01 -0700Our goal this election: to get candidates to commit to ending fossil fuel subsidies, and support #ClimateAction. Can you help? Please fill out this survey. https://www.myseatosky.org/election2020?recruiter_id=20323
BC will be heading to the polls in a matter of weeks. If we want to elect a government that is truly committed to tackling the climate crisis, ending fossil fuel subsidies, and protecting our environment, this next period is critical.
Right now we have a major opportunity to influence the platforms of the major parties, put the issues we care about at the top of candidate’s agendas, and make sure that people who care about the environment are getting out to vote. But how we do this, and how effective it is, depends on you!
To run an effective campaign that puts our issues on the political agenda and engages the public to get out and vote, we need all hands on deck. Here are some of the tactics we are considering in the next few weeks. Which ones would you be willing to participate in?Become a volunteer
Roxanne Stanick signed Sign the Howe Sound Declaration 2019-12-11 19:42:53 -0800Howe Sound is a magical place, finally recovering from previous pollution from heavy industry in the area. Marine mammals are returning, fish and other aquatic life are flourishing, and mammals along the shoreline are increasing as well.
Woodfibre LNG will destroy this exquisite marine Ecosystem, from noise pollution to LNG spills and the possibility of massive explosions of LNG. Protecting marine ecosystems should be out first priority, not transporting highly flammable LNG through designated Marine Sanctuaries.
The influx of 600 men in a man camp on a barge in Howe Sound will cause even more destruction, with workers flying in and out disturbing the peace and raising noise and air pollution dramatically. We don’t need man-camps in Howe Sound, boozing it up on the weekends or after work. Women will be at risk from male workers who are looking for sex on their days off. 600 men on a barge in Howe Sound is a bad idea. So is fracking LNG and shipping it through this precious marine sanctuary.20,388 signatures
Howe Sound is world renowned for its wild natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and the vibrant communities we call home. We value intact ecosystems that sustain and support our communities, our livelihoods, and our diverse local economies.
The proposed Woodfibre LNG project is based on faulty economics, will harm marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and poses an unacceptable health and safety risk for the communities of Howe Sound. This project does not fit our values.
We call on the Provincial and Federal governments to reject the Woodfibre LNG project and its associated pipelines and tankers.

Roxanne Stanick commented on Why Woodfibre LNG still needs to be an election issue in 2018 2019-01-31 19:27:35 -0800Woodfibre LNG should just be cancelled. What happens if there is a gas leak from a LNG tanker? The gas will seep along the water freezing everything in sight, then explode in a huge fireball. The impacts of such a disaster will be made even worse if the ship is passing by the Ferry Terminal at Horseshoe Bay, with ferries coming and going to Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast, boaters, and fishing boats, people in cars in the parking lots or ferry line ups. People canoeing in what is supposed to be a wildlife refuge and hikers or people swimming along the shores. There should not be any LNG near densely populated areas. The LNG project is a disaster waiting to happen. I want to see it cancelled, for everyone’s sake.
