It's time to take ACTION!

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) has completed an analysis of the upstream greenhouse gas emissions for Woodfibre LNG. Now we have three weeks to tell our new Federal Government that the Woodfibre LNG project is unacceptable.

Woodfibre LNG is NOT a done deal. The Federal Government has NOT approved the project. It is still under review and there is no time limit on when they have to respond. PLUS if there is no pipeline there can be no Woodfibre LNG. FortisBC has NOT been granted their BC Environmental Assessment certificate. Squamish First Nation hasn't approved the FortisBC pipeline either and are still in discussions with Fortis.

Here are some of the key actions we need you to take to help us apply some serious political pressure to stop Woodfibre LNG:

1) Sign and share the Howe Sound Declaration!

We did the math: if each of you gets TWO friends to sign the Howe Sound Declaration we will easily surpass our goal of 10,000 signatures. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT! We have less than three weeks to get as many signatures as possible and we need your help. SIGN AND SHARE IT NOW!

2) Put these dates in your calendar!

Thanks to pressure applied by My Sea to Sky and Concerned Citizens Bowen, Pamela Goldsmith-Jones M.P. has set up three community meetings to help gather public comments. We need to fill these venues to overflowing. Bring your friends and your kids!

  • Squamish: Sat Feb 27 at 12.30pm - 2.30pm, Eagle Eye Theatre, 38430 Buckley Avenue RSVP HERE
  • West Vancouver: Sun Feb 28 at 1pm - 2.30pm, Community Centre Music Hall, 2121 Marine Drive RSVP HERE
  • Gibsons: Mon Feb 29 at 5pm - 6.30pm, Heritage Playhouse, 662 North Road RSVP HERE

3) Submit your comments to the CEAA by March 1st 2016

Last year you helped us submit the most public comments for any Environmental Assessment, ever! We need your help to do that again to tell the Federal government loud and clear that we say NO to Woodfibre LNG and its associated pipelines and tankers.

Read the 8-page analysis on upstream greenhouse gas emissions, and submit your comments on the analysis by March 1st to:

4) Stay tuned...

For those of you that would like a little help with your submissions, My Sea to Sky and Concerned Citizens Bowen are pulling together a list of our key concerns with this analysis of upstream greenhouse gas emissions. We love our dedicated volunteers!

We'll do our best to keep you informed in the next three weeks.

Thank you Tracey for this excellent format in which to make a comment. We all are aware of the many reasons why WLNG is a project unsuited to the location for which it is considered. The sole owner is, as Rafe describes, a charged and fined tax evader and destroyer of the rainforest habitat for orangatans in both Sumatra and Borneo. There is no upside to approval of this project on the basis of environment, public safety and economics. Howe Sound is the wrong place for a Class A Hazard that endangers the population the commercial and recreational marine traffic and the marine environment. Accidents in this industry are rare but they do happen and when they do they are catastrophic. I urge everyone to sign the proclamation, email in a public comment on the issue of green house gases asked for by the Minister of Environment and sign the petition. I know we have taken actions many times over the last two years but it is important to do this.

I concur with Rafe, he sums it well…." This project is owned by a tax cheating destroyer of tropical jungles, is far too narrow for Howe Sound by all accepted international standards, will create more destructive fossil fuels and destroy this lovely fjord"

This Planet’s life support system needs less C02 not more. Scrap the antiquated idea and support renewable energies “big time”.

As long time resident of Squamish and an individual who did not reject the Woodfibre Liquid FRACKED Gas (WLFG) plant without doing due diligence as to the viability of this project , I am hereby categorically and without any doubt of my researched opposition to this monstrous project do hereby present the reasons for my abhorrence of the consequences that this project will have on our community and the Sea To Sky air quality , fish and wildlife habitat , impact on existing businesses like tourism , real estate etc !
Perhaps the greatest impact will be loss of security ie, living within a state of IMPENDING DOOM for all the residents within the scope of a catastrophe , which would annihilate everything in the surrounding area, if , God forbid, the worst case scenario were to occur ! In the recent past there have been many acts of sabotage in the FRACKING gas fields of the North and there is no reason to believe that it will be any different if this project were to go ahead and I would contend that they would increase in numbers to which very little protection or relief can be instituted , making WLNG a prime target for disillusioned attacks by extremists who are suffering from blatant disregard for their well being and the environment they live in !
The proponents of WLFG. PETRONAS have an atrocious record of environmental destruction , fraud and corruption , which in my books are criminal offences , which does not encourage any form of faith that they will perform any better in Canada and from all indications the opposite is certainly more believable , this factor has not really been aired very well and if the powers that be ram this project down the peoples throat and the proponents act criminally , will the approvers be considered accomplices (aiding & abetting) which is also a criminal act ?
Since the inception of this project there has been massive unprecedented shifts in the Fossil Fuel supply industry , which is akin to LFG and has devastated the Alberta Tar Sands which has resulted in Massive lay offs and financial ruin for many Canadians ! At the same time LFG prices have collapsed to less than half the numbers used to estimate costs and returns of the WLFG project , with no end in site or predicted for the downward slide ! Coupled with this is the existing and being constructed, LFG plants around the World who are struggling to meet operational costs and legitimacy ! The futures for LFG is on shaky legs and recovery is highly unlikely due to the massive costs of production and the shifts to other forms of sustainable energy competition ! It isn’t hard to imagine what the environmental , social and financial costs would be prevalent if this plant was already operational and subject to the current laws of supply and demand ! You can bet the first financial adjustments at the plant would be safety and the environment!
JOBS and the proponents Rosy Picture are being flaunted with very few solid details of any kind and the word on the street is that WLFG construction prospects will be diverted to foreign contractors and the infrastructure prefabricated then floated back for installation ! It isn’t unreasonable to expect and highly likely that any permanent jobs could be filled by imported labor !
Commodity Exports are the Bain of the environment and the required mega projects devised by short term governments supplant their need to appear to be doing something positive creating jobs and financing social programs – but it is more about getting elected again and the consequences of their grand schemes usually become payable long after they are gone when the World Laws of Supply and Demand come home to roost, dictating the length and success of exported resource markets-the inevitable Boom and Bust Syndrome ,What gets lost in the shuffle is the excess wealth of the commodity which is scooped up by Multi-IRRATIONAL Corporations and their bureaucratic benefactors , whether it be LNG , Timber or W.H.Y. and it is usually the cream of the commodity that is exported and the losers are the Canadian people !
Its time for a change and I would humbly suggest that our precious commodities become accessible to Canadians non fracked LNG for industry, agriculture and transportation which would eliminate the environmental damage from fracking and stabilize the market for the suppliers !
Any mega project should be negotiated with First Nations People and the Proponent , with veto options given to the Nation that the commodity is within and if agreements can be made taken to the next level for considerations which could consist of a confederation of First Nations , Govt’s, NGO’s , Environmental groups etc, etc !
