Organized by concerned residents of Valleycliffe
Hello Valleycliffe and friends,
With Fortis proposing to build a gas compressor station on Mt. Mulligan, the Valleycliffe community faces a range of new safety hazards. The risk of forest fire being the biggest concern, amongst a lengthy list of other problems.
This is an entirely different issue from any ongoing LNG discussion.
No matter where you stand in terms of LNG and other associated developments, the compressor station on Mt. Mulligan is simply a bad idea.
The location as well as the way Fortis is planning to operate this facility are threatening the safety of Valleycliffe, the elementary school, and essentially all of Squamish. There are concerns about the safety of all of Squamish's water supply, air and ground pollution and the overall impact on the community.
We feel there are plenty of opportunities for Fortis to get this done right. The way this is proposed is not a done deal. It seems Fortis is trying to take the easy and cheap way out of the problems with other proposed locations. If a new compressor station and a pipeline upgrade need to happen, they have to be done right.
What we are going to do:
Please join us on Thursday June 23rd at 7:00pm at The Ledge Cafe downtown to have an open discussion of what we can do as a community to make Fortis reconsider this proposal.
Watch for the info flyer at your door this weekend.
We will also set up a website with additional information shortly.
The ultimate goal of this meeting is to get your support and to help us voice your concerns to the people in charge.
We look forward to seeing you there and hope a lot of you can make it.
